Setting
The Finches home, at 67 Perry Street, where Augusten Burroughs is staying.
At the beginning of Running with Scissors, Augusten Burroughs lived with his parents, Norman and Deirdre, in Leverett. The glass house in Leverett was located in the woods, surrounded by trees, and was very open with high ceilings. Later in the memoir, Augusten's mother, Deirdre, moves into her own apartment in Amherst where Augusten stays sometimes. Although this is the case some of the time, Augusten lives with the Finches, Deirdre's shrink and his family, most of the time at their home on 67 Perry Street in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Finches home did not "belong" with the other homes on the block, it was pink and seemed to sag. It looked like an abandoned home that had pink paint peeling off, windows with no shutters with thick plastic over them, and the lawn just looked like firmly packed earth due to foot traffic. This was Augusten's new home, only not what he expected.
